Course Descriptions
The module on Human Behavior in Organization (HBO) is the first of 3 courses directed towards enabling students to develop the skills necessary to effective manage the human resources of their organization. As the first course, HBO is directed towards helping students gain skills in self-knowledge, interpersonal effectiveness and the capacity to manage cross-cultural interactions. These skills will serve as the foundation for their learning how to manage basic HR functions during the second semester and strategic HR in their third semester. The course is also designed to hasten the bonding among the students so that they can practice what they learn in HBO to help each other during their MBA studies. |
Course Objectives:
A. Knowledge
1. About the self
a. Personality preferences;
b. Ineffective behavior patterns;
c. Major life events that shaped the present self;
d. Direction of personal growth;
e. Emotional quotient.
2. About relationships
a. Elements of effective collaborations;
b. Factors that block effective communication;
c. The nature of effective feedback;
d. Win-win conflict resolution;
e. Differences in cultural patterns.
B. Skills
1. Active listening;
2. Tapping Inner Wisdom;
3. Effective feedback;
4. Win-win resolution of conflicts;
5. Handling people problems;
6. Managing cross-cultural interactions.
C. Output: Synthesis paper on HBO
1. Describe your understanding of the essence of managing HBO?
2. What knowledge and competencies must a manager-leader have in order to effectively manage human behavior in a diverse workplace? Explain why each knowledge and competency is important. Show in a framework how these knowledge and competencies are related.
3. What are the indicators of effective management of human behavior in organizations? |

Evaluation and Feedback Systems
What students will learn will be evaluated through 4 papers that they will be asked to submit. These papers are as follows:
- Synthesis of what they learned about their personal self (20 %);
- Synthesis of what they learned about interpersonal effectiveness (20%);
- Written Analysis of a Case (WAC) on HBO (30%); and
- Synthesis of what they learned in the whole course about HBO (30%).
The first paper will be submitted on class # 10 (August 21), the second on class # 14 (September 4), the WAC one day after it is given and the last reflection paper on September 29, 5 p.m.
